Understanding your pet’s body language

All of us just love our furry little friends – they are our faithful companions, standing beside us through bad and good times. Everyone who has a pet keeps being amazed by their unimaginable loyalty with each passing day. Sometimes, we even wish that they could talk back to us!

This is why, for centuries now, people have tried to make the most out of their communication with their dogs, cats, or any beloved pet. This process has had its ups and downs, but in the end, managed to uncover one thing – all animals speak to us with body language. It is considered quite an interesting concept, so today we would love to explore a bit more and help you communicate with your adorable pet.

So, if you want to know what your furry friend is thinking, let’s have a look at some body language signs.

Some of the most common signs of pet body language

There are some signs that are recognizable to everyone around. One of the most common ones include:

–          Dogs wagging their tail – this means that they are happy to see you. In some cases, they may seem excited because food is coming to the table, and they think it is for them.

–          The expected yawn – the yawning means that your dog is tired and wants to take a little bit of rest.

–          An exposed stomach – this is the pet signalling that it is their time to be relaxed and cuddled. Also, this means that they trust you enough to become comfortable and expose their stomach.

–          Soft slow blinking – this is a sign of love, especially when it comes to cats. Also, purring is another adorable trait of cats through which they show love and care for their human!

Some other signs of pets

However, there are plenty of other signs that the pets may use if they want to tell you or show you something. Out of these, some of the most common ones are:

–          If they keep their tails down – this especially goes for the dogs. If they try to keep their tail down between their legs it can either mean insecurity or distress, or even pain.

–          If they lick their lips – whichever pet you have at home, they must have a pair of lips. Well, if you notice your pet licking them, it means that they are either extremely nervous or extremely hungry.

–          A frozen gait – beware of this one, since there might be two outcomes to this. If you notice that your pet has a frozen gait, then it means it is deciding whether it wants to attack aggressively or not.

–          Whiskers – any whisker twitching is known to be a sign of tension.

The context of the body language can be pretty amazing. Even though this can be considered a more difficult form of communication, it is still something people try with their pets. At the end of the day, it shows them how loved they are. You may not notice yet, but animals appreciate the dedication that you put into getting things right and creating a communication channel – and they love it.If you liked this blog, and want to find out something more on other interesting subjects, feel free to keep on reading by signing up for our newsletter!
